RAW FOREST, THE SECRET LIFE OF ALGORYTHM PLANTS
the secret life of algorithmic plants
The project intervenes performatively in the visual topology of the agricultural landscapes around Innsbruck (Thaurer fields). The huge Thaurer fields are covered widely by light- reflecting and weed scathing agriculture foils, similar like in South of Spain. Here at temperatures up to 40 degrees high-tech seeds are growing accelerated by fertilizer additives degrees. Seemingly servile, clandestine and low paid agriculture workers, mostly from Eastern Europe, submit themselves into the foil formations and the rhythms of the controling agricultural machines. Through this asymmetric interaction of working bodies, technologically bred plants and machinic landscapes various cyborg assemblages are emerging.
knowbotiq covers this landscape with digitally printed agricultural foils, inscribing other visual narrations and time jumps into the landscape. the artistic project is inserting ornamental lines between the high-tech agriculture fields of Austrians “Pleasure-region/Genussregion”and the postcolonial plantation economies. The harvesting of fruit and vegetables is preceded by a multitude of machinic-rhythmic processes of sowing and growthing. Precarious human labour connects on the fields symbiotically with agricultural machinery in order to stimulate the plants towards an optimized exploit. This highly economized and technolgized industrial landscape is opposing the rural imaginations of the tourist industry which still advertises the mountain flora, fauna and the smallholder idyll as a pristine ideal.

Das Projekt The BlackGhillie Landscape Tirol interveniert in die visuellen Ordnungen der großbäuerlichen Agrarlandschaften rund um Innsbruck, den Thaurer Feldern. Hier bedecken lichtspeichernde und unkrautvernichtende Agrarfolien riesige landwirtschaftliche Flächen, unter denen Saatgut und Setzlinge bei Temperaturen bis zu 40 Grad beschleunigt gedeihen. LandarbeiterInnen und ErntehelferInnen arbeiten zwischen den Rhythmen der Agrarmaschinen und den abstrakten, unendlich weit gekerbten Folien-Formationen.
knowbotiq maskiert ein hundert Meter langes landwirtschaftliches Feld mit digital bedruckten Agrarfolien, und bringt so andere visuelle Narrationen und Codierungen in diese Folien-Landschaften ein: arbeitende Körper, Chimären aus tierischen und pflanzlichen Wesen, animistische Technologien und historische und zukünftige Atmosphären.
In einer Eröffnungsperformance werden DJ Raw Forest und der Tänzer Idrissa Apunda zusammen mit den fiktiven Figuren kotomisi und blackghillie live das sensible Verhältnis von Landschaft, menschlicher-maschineller Arbeit und Agrar-Technologien auf der Ackerfläche aktivieren.
